Luke 18:14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalted themselves will be humbled, and those who humbled themselves will be exalted.”

In this parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector we find the true meaning of prayer; for, it is through prayer that we confess and accept who and what we really are. It is then that our hearts are opened to God’s will for our life.

What We Should Know

The Pharisee in this Scripture has proclaimed his self-righteousness as he sees it to the world while the tax collector on the other hand confesses his unrighteousness to God. He declares his guilt for not being all that he could be for God. We are not perfect and all God wants is for us to acknowledge our imperfections and seek His will and way to overcome them. That comes from the depths of our heart.
