John 3:9-12 “9 How can this be? Nicodemus asked. 10 ‘You are Israel’s teacher,’ said Jesus, ‘and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?’”

Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus who is a Pharisee. He has seen the miracles performed  by Jesus and has acknowledged that He has come from God because only God could perform such signs. Yet, he can’t seem to comprehend what Jesus is saying.

What We Should Know

Nicodemus’ experience and training as a Jewish Pharisee is clouding his ability to accept Jesus’ teaching about being born again. Thus, he is doubting Jesus’ words in spite of the overwhelming evidence. Nicodemus’ earthly logic is clouding his ability to understand and accept Jesus’ teaching.
